Kurt POrtas

Kurt Portas is a regenerative agriculture practitioner with over 20 years’ experience across sheep, beef, and dairy farming systems. He focuses on practical, environment-friendly farming — building soil health, resilient pastures, and profitable systems through innovative grazing management.

Kurt previously managed Palliser Ridge, a large sheep, beef, and dairy operation in South Wairarapa. There, he helped develop product branding and a compelling market story while driving on-farm environmental improvements. Strategic grazing management was at the heart of both production and ecological outcomes.

He now works with Regenified, an independent verification company that monitors landscapes and recognises farmers for the positive impact they’re having. Kurt also coaches and mentors farmers, helping them gain confidence in grazing management and supporting their journey toward farming systems that work with nature.
