NGAIO COWELL
Ngaio Cowell (Ngaati Te Ata te Waiohua, Waikato, Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Whātua) is a self described haututū.
She predominately works as an artist for her iwi in Taamaki using her skills as a kairaranga for large scale sculptural works and also works in other toi fields.
Her mahi is te taiao focused, from her practice to her teachings. Ngaio works as a lecturer and tutor at Universities in Waitaha, where she focusses on the relationship of te Tiriti o Waitangi to soil, fibre, food forestry and kai sovereignty.
In addition she also a co-founder of; Boil Up with Josh Hunter (Ngāti Tūwharetoa), an initiative bringing communities together through nostalgic and accessible food experiences around the beloved Boil Up.
