Hanna Breurkes

Hanna Breurkes is a design researcher and science communicator, whose creative practice centres on design that connects us with environments. Her current research explores more-than-human design and how it can be developed and used to encourage caring relationships between people and soil.

Hanna designed Unearthed, an interactive book about native invertebrates of AotearoaThe book fosters a sense of wonder and connection through illustration and interactive pop ups, flaps, hidden sections and textural elements. Unearthed was a finalist in the Best Design Awards 2024.

Hanna uses her skills in collaborative storytelling and illustration to communicate complex systems research in a clear and accessible way.

She is part-way through her Master’s of Design at Toi Rauwhārangi, Massey University, and works at Toi Āria, Design for Public Good.
