Michael Andrew

Michael Andrew is the founder and editor of On the Land magazine – a bimonthly print publication dedicated to covering homesteading, small-scale farming, permaculture and the movement of people reconnecting with the whenua.

A journalist by trade and townie by origin, he became the editor of NZ Lifestyle Block magazine in 2022 after impulsively purchasing his own off-grid lifestyle block in rural Waikato with very little practical knowledge. Through interviewing and writing about various farming and growing experts throughout Aotearoa, he's learnt much in the last few years, developing a passion for regenerative systems and gradually applying them on his own land – with just as many blunders as successes!

He loved his job so much that in 2024, he purchased NZ Lifestyle Block magazine and rebranded it as On the Land, cementing its place as Aotearoa's foremost regenerative-focused media platform. He is his driven by a passion to amplify stories of rural resourcefulness, community sufficiency and holistic land management, while encouraging other city-based people to follow their hearts back to the land.
